Reviewing Susan Jeffries, Owner of Mille Fleurs

Award-winning floral design for every budget

Mille Fleurs says they are not a traditional florist, but an event specialist. Seventy percent of their business is weddings, and they stress personalized service. "Brides can call anytime and be guaranteed the freshest possible flowers," Susan says. All flowers are ordered specifically for each event. Then the florists go to work – and Mille Fleurs has some serious talent to draw on.

Personally speaking...

When Susan Jeffries couldn't find the floral designs she was looking for, she decided to start creating them herself. It was the start of a new career. She went back to school, graduating from Seneca College's retail florist program with high honours, and then launched Mille Fleurs.

From talking to Susan, we found out that her arrangements have been on the cover of a Canadian floral trade magazine and her principal designer has placed in the top ten in international competitions while also teaching at Seneca College.

Since 1995, Mille Fleurs has decorated for hundreds of events across the GTA and as far north as Muskoka, creating bouquets, hair wreaths, pew decorations, centerpieces, and much more.

Susan says her clients are thrilled with the results, and that one bride told her, "Guests are still talking about how beautiful the flowers were, six months after the wedding."

What's hot

A lot of brides are choosing calla lilies and orchids, Susan says, and a contemporary look with clean lines and glass centerpieces is very popular. She also does a lot of hand-tied round bouquets, incorporating a garden style for a more natural look.

The cost of beauty

Susan encourages brides to bring in photos to give her a sense of your style. Whatever look you want, she can make it happen, at a price you can afford. "At Mille Fleurs, we strongly believe that every bride is entitled to a beautiful wedding, regardless of budget," she says.

Extra, extra

To help you achieve a coordinated look – and simplify your wedding planning – Mille Fleurs also rents large silk floral arrangements, arches, chuppahs, urns, aisle stands, pedestals, vases, centerpiece stands, votive holders, chair covers, and linens.

The essential details

Brides should book flowers at least six months in advance. Rentals go quickly, so you'll need to book those well ahead of time too. At Mille Fleurs, each wedding is unique, so there are no packages. Susan says that Mille Fleurs pricing ranges from $500 to $10,000, depending upon the bride's taste, and the initial consultation is free.
