Reviewing Cameron Buttigieg,
Canterbury Horse and Carriage
Brides feel like royalty with horse-drawn
carriage ride
Many brides dream
of arriving at their wedding in an elegant white horse-drawn
carriage complete with driver and footman in tuxedos. It adds that
historical princess-style touch of elegance that you can't get any
other way. Canterbury Horse and Carriage is busy each summer because
they make this dream come true for many Toronto area brides.
Drawing a crowd...
It's not just
brides that like the look of a horse and carriage. It's a grand
entrance that draws the attention of just about everyone within
sight. "People usually stop and wave when they see the bride in the
carriage go by which makes her feel like royalty," says owner
Cameron Buttigieg. "There’s usually a big crowd outside the church
waiting to see the bride arrive, too."
A horse and carriage wedding
The slower pace
of the carriage ride adds to its beauty and also allows time for the
bride to relax as she makes her way to the church or ceremony
location. After saying 'I do', every guest will be snapping shots of
the bride and groom as you leave for a private, romantic carriage
ride before the reception.
The horse and
carriage make a perfect back drop for wedding photos. The driver and
footman work with the photographer to achieve perfect pictures for
lasting memories says Cameron. "The large draft horses are
predisposed to be very calm which is great for taking pictures," he
adds.
Cameron also
customizes the carriage and horse’s harness with bows, garlands and
floral accents to match the bride’s colour scheme.
Charlie,
Cameron's favourite horse, is a strawberry roan Belgian draft horse.
"He actually looks pink which a lot of brides like," says Cameron.
Convenience
In case of rain,
all of the carriages have convertible tops and side curtains. For
cooler weather, plush lap robes keep everyone toasty warm.
Personally speaking...
Cameron has a
long history with horses. He was raised on a farm and trained as a
blacksmith. He worked for a Niagara-on-the-Lake carriage company
where he met up with and trained Charlie. He now crafts custom and
commercial horse-drawn carriages which led him to begin the
Canterbury Horse and Carriage service. Cameron enjoys being part of
the bride and groom’s big day. He’s met a lot of interesting people
from a variety of backgrounds and customs he says.
